The biggest factor in selecting a physician is whether he or she accepts the patient’s insurance, according to the National Poll on Healthy Aging conducted by the University of Michigan in partnership with AARP.
Here are the top factors from 2,256 respondents ages 50-80:

61% Ease in getting appointments
42% Doctor’s years of experience
23% Recommended by friend/family
17% Doctor’s medical school
6% Same gender as patient
2% Same race/ethnicity as patient
